HOW IT STARTED

Growing up on the seacoast, in a generation that witnesses more climate disasters every year,
we’ve been conscious of our impact on the environment from a young age. We strive to do things the right way, otherwise why bother… the world has enough greed & apathy😬 

2AM is the result of combining our two favorite pandemic hobbies; candle-making & thrifting. When we started this journey, we wanted to create an affordable, high-quality product — made sustainably & safe for our pets. 

OUR COMMITMENT

We strive to implement circular economy practices like upcycling & reusing when possible. When sourcing materials, we search for the best quality made in the most sustainable way possible because we don’t think our customers should have to compromise their values or quality expectations shopping with us. 

It’s also important to us to support other local & small businesses, especially those that prioritize sustainability. This keeps money in the community & stimulates the local economy. That’s why we’re proud to work with businesses like the Drift Collective & Greenly Plant Co., supporting our Portsmouth & Philadelphia communities. 

Materials

  • Wicks

    Wood: Eco-friendly, clean-burning, wooden wicks made from FSC Certified Wood, hand-crafted + made in the USA

    Cotton: Flat cotton wicks braided with thin paper threads so they maintain a rigid structure without a core

  • Fragrance

    Our fragrances are vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, & phthalate-free. When we refer to our candles as “clean” or “non-toxic” we mean they are free of:

    ✖ Reproductive Toxins

    ✖ Organ Toxins

    ✖ Acute Toxins

    ✖ Carcinogens

    ✖ Mutagens 

  • Wax

    We use two types of wax (depending on the vessel) - both are 100% all-natural soy wax that is non-toxic, pet safe, cruelty-free & vegan friendly.

    One is locally sourced in the U.S. and made from soybeans grown in Iowa. While the other is biodegradable and sourced from the UK.

Glass supplier

A zero-waste certified, woman-owned business focused on creative & innovative reuse utilizing waste bottle glass that is locally sourced in Philadelphia, PA.

RECYCLED BEER & WINE BOTTLES DE-LABELED, CUT, FIRED & POLISHED INTO CUSTOM CANDLE VESSELS.

Using a glass collection & sorting system, BU strives to find the best use of glass through recycling, recirculation, upcycling, & downcycling to reduce glass waste.
